James E Watson & Co. has a rich history dating back to 1952 when it was founded by James (Jim) E. Watson in Marietta, Georgia. Initially operating from Jim's home, the company stocked and shipped GAST Manufacturing products. In 1965, the company moved to its current location on Doran Avenue.

In 1970, Joseph (Joe) C. Johnson purchased James E Watson & Co. and expanded its product offerings with the addition of the Liquiflo Chemical Processing Pumps line in 1972 and the Busch Manufacturing product line in 1975. Joe Johnson's wife, Starr Johnson, became the majority owner in the 1990s.

In 2010, RJ Berger and Ashley Williams became majority owners of the company. RJ Berger has a background in aviation and brought his expertise to James E Watson & Co. The company added a GAST-certified repair department in 2010.

In 2023, Atlas Copco acquired the assets of James E Watson & Co., further enhancing their presence in the vacuum equipment and service solutions industry.
