Tricon Materials has a rich history in the aggregate industry, dating back to 1968 when founder Richard 'Dick' Nelson established Walnut Sand and Gravel with his brother, Ronald Nelson. They operated gravel pits in Illinois, providing high-quality washed aggregates used in asphalt, concrete, and base material applications. In 1992, Richard formed Tri-Con Materials with partners Steve Nelson and Steve Harmon. The company operated from Serena in LaSalle County before merging with Walnut Sand and Gravel in 1997 to become Tri-Con's operating entity.

Today, Tri-Con Materials is based at their Hennepin location, which is their largest active gravel pit situated along the Illinois River with barge-loading facilities. With over 54 years of experience, they continue to prioritize providing the highest quality aggregate materials to their Illinois customers. Their management team consists of professionals with a deep understanding of the industry.
